Raymond (Ray) George Hamilton, of Halifax, passed away peacefully on June 11, 2025 at the age of 87. His final months were comfortably spent at Moody Hall Long-Term Care Facility where he was affectionately known as ‘Ray Ray’.
Ray was the oldest of Marjorie (MacDonell) Hamilton and Clyde Hamilton’s 12 children. He spent his early years on London Street in Halifax, Nova Scotia. He spent most of his life with his wife of 56 years, Rosalinda (Linda) Hamilton. She was by his side daily through his transition from their home to the hospital and finally into long term care. His career was in auto sales. He loved cars, everything about cars, from collecting diecast models to long car drives. He would drive for days and only stopped when he hit a coast. He was proud of the work he did, the reputation he earned and the relationships he built with colleagues and long-time customers. He made friends easily, had a generous nature and was quick to tell a story.
Ray loved music, he could tell you everything about the early Halifax music scene. On his best days, in long term care, music therapists would come and perform Elvis, John Denver or one of the Hanks. Ray also loved reading, crossword puzzles, history, gardening and working with his hands. He renovated, built and more often unbuilt much of the Dakin Drive home that he loved so much. He took great pride in a job well done and enjoyed contemplating every detail.
Ray is survived by his wife Linda Hamilton, daughter Leesa Hamilton, son in law Ben Stone, grandson Isaac Hamilton Stone, grand pup Mabel and siblings Rosemary Barnett, Anna Furber, Rita Hamilton, Phyllis Cooke, Brenda Taylor, Shirley Standen, Karen Plume, Rick Hamilton, Terrence-Joe Hamilton and his many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by parents Marjorie and Clyde and siblings Joyce Roberts and Pat McGirr.
The family would like to express their gratitude for the compassionate care he received at Moody Hall and Ivy Meadows long term care. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to a music program at a local long term care facility, https://maritimeconservatory.com/musictherapy/
A celebration of life will be held on Friday June 27, 2025 beginning at 2pm followed by a reception in J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax
