CURREN, Reginald Leslie – 96, passed away at Veterans Memorial Building in Halifax, on October 20, 2020, closely supported by his loving family. Born in Halifax he was one of four sons of the late Reginald Herbert Curren and Mary (Roche) Curren.
Reg grew up on the family farm on what is now known as Magazine Hill. After graduating from Bloomfield High in 1942, he worked for a short time at the Magazine. On turning 18, he enlisted with the RCAF, serving until 1945. He was later employed with Irving Oil for more than 40 years.
For Reg, family was always a priority, having grown up with many close family ties and instilling the love and importance of those ties in his own immediate family. He, along with his wife Marion, hosted and/or attended innumerable family gatherings through the years both at home in Halifax, and at their summer cottage in Malagash. Reg always enjoyed a good game of cards, be it cribbage, 45s, bridge, to name just a few, and often played in a quietly competitive manner. Reg was a founding, and long-standing member of St. Peter’s Anglican Church in Birch Cove. He was a long-time church treasurer and volunteered for many positions and committees. He enjoyed gardening and being outdoors and liked going to the fishing camp in Ship Harbour. Reg was a strong supporter of any activities involving his children and grandchildren and was a loyal fan at many of their sports events.
Reg was a devoted son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He will be sadly missed by his children James, Dorothy (Gary Clarke), Gordon (Julia) and Douglas (Lenora Bell), his grandchildren Jennifer (Kendall), Matthew (Laura), Daniel, Shawn (Susanne), Leslie, Amanda (Dave), Tom, Benjamin (Laura), Bradford and Breanna, his great grandchildren Aubree, Mackenzie, Lochlan, Charlotte, Harlan, Logan and Sylvie, and by his brother Ken (Lee), as well as many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Reg was predeceased by his wife Marion (Cass), grandson Andrew, great grandson Emmerson, and his brothers Donald and Alan.
At this time, the family would like to express their gratitude and appreciation to all the wonderful, caring staff at 5 East in the Veterans Memorial Building in Halifax. We are also very grateful to all the caregivers and VON who supported Dad in his home on the Kearney Lake Road.
Visitation will be held at Snow’s Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax on October 28 from 5:00 – 8:00pm. Respecting Provincial Health Guidelines, there will be a small family service at St Peter’s Anglican Church.
