Beloved Father, Grandfather, Brother, Uncle, and Cousin passed quickly on the evening of June 11, 2022, after a short stay in hospital. Cherished son of Dorothy and Robert Erskine Sr of Warwick, Bermuda. Robert was born in Bermuda in March of 1930.
He immigrated to Canada in the 50’s, attending Mount Allison University graduating in 1955 with a BFA degree. These were very happy years where he made life long friendships and met and married his wife, Elinor (nee MacNicoll) now deceased. They moved to Halifax where they had 3 children, Leslie Ann, Robert Peter, and John Andrew.
He was a trailblazer. A teacher, an educator, a school principal at both Rockingham Elementary (1962), and later the newly opened Clayton Park Junior High. He ended his successful career working for the NS Dept of Education.
In his retirement he enjoyed so many things. His family and friends were very important to him particularly his granddaughters Olivia Doyle (British Columbia), Claire Davis (Toronto) and his niece Pamela Adams (Bermuda) and long time friends the Carters, Lusbys, Hemeons and Hemming.
He had a great love of church pipe organ music, and classical piano. He was proficient pianist and organist in his own right. Friends and conversation, gardens and gardening a highlight, travel, creating recipes and so many other things were of great interest to him. He was a keen observer of life and all it had to offer. We all knew him to have a quick and sensible mind. A keen sense of humour and a warm full laugh. For all of us he was the very essence of a gentleman and we will truly miss his wise counsel.
As we grieve our deep loss we take solace in the comments he made as he was ending his earthly journey. “I have had a very good life”
Go gentle into that good night.
Service will take place Saturday August 6th, 2022 10 am at J A Snow Funeral Chapel Lacewood Drive, Halifax. Reception to follow and committal take place at St John Cemetery.
The family of Robert Adams requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Friends of the Halifax Public Gardens
