Age 90, of Halifax died on November 30, 2022 at Veteran’s Memorial Hospital. Born in Newcastle, England, Gordon was the son of the late George and Katie (Armstrong) Kyle. He was predeceased by his brother Norman Kyle. He is survived by Elaine, his wife of 67 years; son John (Kerry), Salt Spring Island, BC; and daughter Jane, New Minas. Gordon graduated from Liverpool High School and attended King’s College University before entering a career in the marine industry. Following a drafting apprenticeship at the Halifax Shipyard, he worked at the shipyards in Hebburn-on-Tyne, England. After returning to Halifax, Gordon accepted a position with the Halifax Shipyard as an estimator and ship repair coordinator. Moving to Victoria, B.C., he held a managerial position at MacKay Cormack Shipyard until he served time at sea to qualify as a Marine Engineer and become a member of the Canadian Institute of Marine Engineers. He subsequently worked for the Government of Canada (Supply and Services) in Vancouver and Halifax. Gordon became a member of the Rotary Club International in 1967 and was a member of the Victoria, Saanich and Halifax clubs. He was a recipient of the Paul Harris Fellowship Award from the Halifax Northwest Rotary Club. Gordon enjoyed music and was a member to the Atlantic Swells Barbershop Chorus for five years. He loved to golf, bowl and curl depending on the season. As a member of the United Church of Canada, Gordon served on many committees and was always on hand to help with various events. For many years Gordon was an active supporter and chair person for the Fairview Family Resource Parent ’n Tot Program. His family and friends will miss his calm and caring traits. If anyone needed a helping hand, Gordon was always willing to lend two. Cremation has taken place and a private committal service will be held at a later date.
