
Boutilier, Ruth Rebecca of Halifax formerly Middle Stewiacke , passed away peacefully at the age of 91, on September 5, 2015. Born in Ellershouse, Ruth was the daughter of the late Al and Mary (Swinamer) Brown. Predeceased by her husband, Robert B. MacDonald Boutilier, sisters Elsie Benedict, Mount Uniacke, Jean Pemberton, Ardoise, brothers Earl, Bill, Cecil all of Ellershouse.
Ruth joined the Armed Forces at the age of 19 and became a member of the Provost Corp & Military Police. She later became one of the first women Customs Inspectors at Pier 21. Between jobs she worked at the Chicken Burger, Bedford. Ruth left her job to be married and raise her family. At the age of 60, she studied to become a Personal Care Worker and worked at Hillcrest Manor, Truro until her retirement. She later moved to Halifax to live with her daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren, Scott and Nicholas. Although she enjoyed quilting, card games, politics and receiving thoughtful letters from Christine Dill Brown and Marg Benedict, her love was for her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by her son, Robert A. (Verna) Boutilier, Chilliwack, BC, daughter Jo Anne (Rupert) Fisher, Halifax, NS, grandchildren Marcus Boutilier, Stony Plain, AB and Michelle & (Paul) Chastko, Calgary, AB, H. Scott Fisher, Beiseker, AB and C. Nicholas Fisher, Halifax, NS, great grandchildren William and Jackson Chastko, Calgary, AB, brother Robert Brown, Windsor, sister Dorothy Patton, Windsor, sister in law, Joan Johnson, Enfield, sister/brother in law, Elsie & Don Barker, ON, brother in law, Ernie Pemberton, Ardoise, several nieces/nephews and great nieces/nephews.
Burial has taken place, Middle Stewiacke Cemetery.
Ruth wished all to remember the veterans and what they did for this country. Memorial donations may be made to War Amps Canada.
