March 14, 1934February 9, 2020

Samuel Robert “Bob” Hackett, Age 85 of Halifax, passed away peaceful on February 9, 2020 at the QEII Health Sciences Centre (Infirmary) after a brief illness with kidney and congested heart failure. Bob was the first son of the late Ernest “William” and Nina (Butler) Hackett, Halifax. Bob is survived by son, Grant (Kelly), Boutilier’s Point; daughters, Lynn (Keith Carroll), Bedford; and Janice (Deanna Neilson), Halifax; grand-daughter, Katlyn (Andrew Hines), Elmsdale; sister, Jean (Roger Foisy), Halifax; brother, Edward (Cecilia), Dartmouth; several nieces and nephews. He was employed with the CNR Express from 1953-1989 and had the good fortune of retiring at age 55. Living across the street from the old Civic Arena, every Saturday was spent in the rink. For over 10 years Dad volunteered his time with the Halifax Minor Hockey Association coaching “The Colts” in the Squirt Division. When female hockey was introduced to Halifax Minor Hockey in the early 70’s, Dad along with Mom became the pioneers of a husband & wife duo coaching a female team. Dad was a very proud member of Saint John’s United Church for over 50 years. He was an Honorary Elder and member of Session for 25 years. Dad also enjoyed being a member of the Men’s Club where they loved to show off their cooking skills. Besides his parents, Bob was predeceased by his loving wife of 55 years Barb, sister Ida (Kelowna, BC); brothers, Bill (Kentville); Fred (Sackville); David (Halifax); niece, Ann Hackett (Dartmouth). Cremation has taken place. No visitation by request. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, February 19, at 2 p.m. in J.A. Dear Grant, Lynn and Janice,

The loss of a parent is always a very tough time. Derrick and I are sorry we can’t be there. With the support of friends and family, hard times will be a little easier.
I will always remember when your Dad
(and Mom) were coaching us in hockey, it was very evident that they were both in their happy place . 💙🏒
Take Care
Trish and Derrick

Dear Grant, Lynn and Janice,
It goes without saying, Bobby's passing has saddened me to no end. I'll miss our weekly phone calls or sometimes more often if he wanted me to look something up on the internet, especially phone calls he received but didn't recognize, and he got quite a few of them. Altho he never answered them, he still wanted to know who it was. We had a good laugh about it.
My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Deepest condolences to the Hackett family. He was a next door neighbor of mine years ago when we lived on Pacific and a regular customer at Young Street Superstore for years after that when I worked there. Always happy to see either other and have a friendly conversation. RIP
