Shirley Flinn

Flinn (Sweet) Shirley Aldeen Lorraine, age 85, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 11, 2014, in the Halifax Infirmary. Born February 1st, 1929, in Halifax, she was a daughter of the late Geraldine and Thomas Sweet. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family, predeceased by her only sister Gert.

In her early years, she loved riding horses with the Bengal Lancers. She later took a job as secretary to Mr. Swartz at Swartz & Sons.

She then met and married Douglas Richard Flinn on June 28, 1950, and started a large family. She still found time to volunteer at the IWK and the Kermesse for many years.

She is survived by her 7 children, Michael (Kelly) Patricia Hobbs (Randy), Daniel (Karen), Christine Podrouzek (Allan), Timothy (Tanya), Mary Comeau (Bruce) and Joseph (Jane). She also had 16 grandchildren and one great grandson.

Arrangements have been entrusted to J. A Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Dr., Halifax (455-0531) where a visitation will take place on Friday, May 16 from 7-9 pm. A memorial service will take place in the Snow’s Memorial Chapel on Saturday, May 17 at 1:00 pm.
