

Age 89, passed away peacefully in Victoria General Hospital, Halifax, on March 16, 2017. Stan was born in Halifax on April 7, 1927, to Stanley George and Mary Cecelia (Perrier) Selig. He lived his whole life in Halifax, attending local schools, and was a ‘Golden Grad’ from St. Mary’s High School. He excelled at baseball and hockey.
He enjoyed acting in local productions and attending dances at St. Mary’s Boat Club, where he met his wife, Marie, and together, they developed many life-long friendships. Family was of great importance to Stan and he was a regular fan at after school games and tournaments for all of his children’s sporting events. He and Marie welcomed many friends and strangers into their home, always making them feel part of the family.
Stan worked for over 30 years with London Life. He was an active member of St. Theresa’s Parish, as a member of the first Parish Council, as well as, the Mens’ Association, St. Vincent de Paul Society, Eucharistic Ministry, and St. Theresa’s Folk Choir. He was active in the Knights of Columbus and the local Liberal Association for many years. After his retirement, Stan enjoyed golf, bowling, and spending time at his trailer in Hubbards and at the Waeg. He brought Communion to veterans at the Camp Hill Veterans’ Memorial Building for many years. He was a member of the Atlantic Swells and the Dartmouth City of Lakes Barbershop Choruses. He was an avid supporter of the ScotianAires Ladies’ Barbershop Chorus.
Stan is survived by his children: Marion (Dennis) Penton, Dartmouth, Joanie (Larry) Langley, Halifax, Bob (Fran), Dartmouth, Stephen (Lisa), Ottawa, Cathy (Dave) Keating, Halifax, Trish (Derrick) MacNeil, Dartmouth, and Carolyn (Stacey) Wiper, Hammonds Plains; his grandchildren: Angela, Scott (Sarah), Jean (Brian), Sarah, Annie (Matt), Stan, Joey, Becky (Dominique), Trish, Hannah, Jen (Kyle), Sandy (Rohit), Mike, Morgan, and Taylor; and his great-grandchildren: Hunter, Cedar, Norman, Sol, Huxly, and Aarya.
He was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Marie (Reardon) Selig; his sister, Lenora Evans; and his granddaughter, Katherine Penton.
Visitation will be at Snows Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Dr, Halifax, on Tuesday, March 21 and Wednesday, March 22, from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm. Funeral will be held on Thursday, March 23, at 11:00 am at St. Theresa’s Parish, 6351 North Street, Halifax, with celebrant Father James Wegner. Reception will follow in the church hall, with burial afterward in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lower Sackville.
