Theresa was the daughter of the late Thomas and Ida (Johnson) Spearns of Bear Cove, born 12 March 1936.
She was the sole survivor of her immediate family, predeceased by her parents, her sisters Mary, and her late husband Bob Sullivan, Margareta (Reta) Christian, and her late husband Howard, Genevieve (Genny) Power, and her late husband Henry, Bertha Grandy, and her late husband Paul, and brothers John, and his late wife Theresa, and Thomas (Bob), and his late wife Joan.
Theresa spent her early years growing up in downtown Halifax, attending St. Mary’s school.
The family was fortunate to have a summer getaway in Bear Cove where her mother was from, called the hillside cottage, which was later renovated and became home.
Theresa’s career spanned MT&T where she worked with lifelong friend Shirley, then on to the provincial data center, and retiring from the worker’s compensation board of Nova Scotia.
She enjoyed travelling and the opportunity to see and experience different parts of the world. Theresa spent many hours painting with the Atlantic Area Artists Association. She always looked forward to the weekly ladies dart league at her beloved Purcells Cove club.
Theresa is survived by her son Tony, and his wife Cheryl, whom she adored. She shared a special bond with her grandchildren Nicole (Pat) Kaulbeck, and Brendan (Samantha) Boyd.
Although Alzheimer’s and Dementia stole her precious memories in the last years, she was the proud great grandmother to Nolan and Charlie Boyd, and Logan and Lily Kaulbeck.
She will also be dearly remembered by her many nieces and nephews who visited her frequently and stayed close to her throughout her life.
Theresa will be remembered for her strength, determination, independence and creativity. Her presence will be greatly missed, but her legacy lives on in the many lives she touched.
A funeral mass will be held at St. Michael’s Church in Spryfield, on 14 March 2026 at 11 a.m. Reception to follow for family and friends to share in her celebration of life.
