Vella was my sister she an I were very close. I was visiting her the night before she died. I still miss her a lot.  we did a lot of good times         
in our youth . I know she is in a better place and offer a PAYER for every Sunday

I knew Vella when I was 7, in Cuba. She teaches me a lot of things starting by English. She was for me and my family same as my own grandma. She help us to survive in a difficult economic situation. The first chocolate I tried, she gave it to me. Today is her birthday. And I wanna remember her as the person who brought joy and kindness to the live of a big Cuban family. Not only the family but our friends love Vella.  I like to think I was the most closest to her of all her Cuban family. But I speak in the name of all, wherever you are I know you are happy. And we always remembered you. Love you honey. 

Gordon, Dougie, Allen and families, my memories of my friendship with Vella are many from our years working together at the Canadian Forces Hospital Halifax through numerous trips to warmer climates during the winter, Bosses Night at the Fleet Club, Hallowe'en and Christmas parties, curling in Greenwood, and so many other special moments.  She was truly one of a kind, whether it was parachuting in the valley or parasailing over Halifax Harbour, she was not one to turn down an opportunity for excitement in her life.  Vella lived life trying to fit in as much as she could and making many friends along the way.  She was very proud of each of you and loved her family dearly.  I am so sorry for the loss of your very precious mother and grandmother.   She was an extraordinary lady and she will be missed.

I have many fond memories of Vella from CFH Halifax (when it was a hospital).  She was one of a kind! Always a lot of fun and definitely enjoyed a good time!

Sorry to hear about the passing of Aunt Vella.  She will be remembered for her adventurous nature.  I have some lovely memories of spending time with her when I was a little girl.  You are all in our thoughts.  Karen (Wah) and Jeff Wilbert
