

MacCreadie, William Alexander “Bill” – 84 of Halifax passed away peacefully on October 7, 2016 in the Queen Elizabeth II Hospital with his family by his side. Born on October 14, 1931 in Halifax, NS, he returned home to Plymouth, England, in July 1932, with his late parents Robert and Mollie (Mathaison) MacCreadie. During World War II he was evacuated to family in Scotland and following the war he returned to Plymouth, England, to finish his schooling.
After leaving school he obtained an apprenticeship as a Motor Mechanic with H. Andrew & Co., Plymouth, where he met Gerry who was to become his wife.
In 1954 he commenced work for HM Dockyard, Devonport, England as an Engine Fitter. He was later promoted to a Recorder and in all, worked at HM Dockyard for 28 years.
On June 30th 1956 he married Geraldene (Wheaton) and they had two daughters Susan (Malc) and Anne (Geoff).
After living for many years in Plymouth, Bill and Gerry moved to Halifax, Nova Scotia in 1983 where Bill worked for Colonial Honda until his retirement. Following his retirement he worked part time for the Chronicle Herald.
Bill was an active and much loved member of St. John’s United Church where he played the Handbells with the Choir, became an elder and for several years coordinated the Youth Club.
Bill had many hobbies including; auto repair, woodworking, wine/beer making, movies and was known as Mr. Fix-it on Gladstone St.
He enjoyed camping and walking and the wilderness in general. Although he left England many years ago he never lost his passion for football (Soccer) and often a Saturday would be spent watching several matches.
However, his greatest love was for his family and he will be greatly missed by his beloved wife of 60 years Gerry; two daughters, Susan (Malc) of Plymouth and Anne (Geoff) of Northampton, England, and his many Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren, and by his adopted Canadian family Helen and Sandy Fraser of Halifax and their children, Colin and Iain (Laura).
He will also be sorely missed by his sister, Betty Cochrane of Trowbridge, England who was predeceased by her husband, Don and her family, cousin, Margaret E. Smith of Halifax, who was predeceased by her husband, Murray, and her family, brother-in-law, Tony (Leslie) of Trusham, England and his family.
Arrangements have been entrusted to J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Dr. Halifax, where a Celebration of Life service officiated by Rev. Martha Martin will be held on Friday, October 14, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. Cremation has taken place, donations in Bill’s memory can be made to the QEII Foundation (www.qe2foundation.ca).
