

Age 97, of Halifax, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, February 13, 2017 with family by his side. Born in West Petpeswick, Halifax Co., on April 24, 1919 he was a son of the late Charles B. Young and Theresa O'Leary.
Bill attended St. Mary's University for two years, then joined the army in 1942 and remained there until the war ended. He then joined the Militia, Princess Louise Fusuliers and retired at age 65 years with rank of Major. He worked at Hudson's Bay Company for over 30 years.
He is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Barbara (Johnstone); son, William Jr. (Barbara); daughters, Elizabeth (Jerome), Maureen (Michael), Ann (Louie), Theresa (Jim); many grandsons, granddaughters, and great-grandchildren. Bill was predeceased by sons, Richard (Barbara) and David; brothers, Breen (Mary); Basil (Ruby), Father Gerald, Leo (Grace), Gregory (Florence); and sisters, Marina, Claire (Ralph) and Nora (Prouty). He was the last surviving member of his family.
No visitation by request. A Funeral Mass will take place at Saint Theresa's Church, 6351 North St., Halifax, on Saturday, February 18th, at 11:00 am, Father James Wegner officiating. Reception for family to follow, 6344 Berlin Street. Interment in Saint Joseph's Cemetery, Park Street, Kentville.
Bill was a kind and loving husband and father who was happiest when surrounded by his family. Grandpa Bill will be deeply missed by all. Special thanks are given to caregivers Debbie, Hazel, Lee-Anne and Veronica for their kindness and care.
