

It is with great sadness that our family announce the passing of Yvonne on August 15, 2015. Born in Surrey, England she was the only daughter of Harold and Mary Ida (Cottrell) Woodgate. She immigrated to Canada with her family on April 1, 1932 through Pier 21 and settled in Bear River, Digby County. She attended Digby Regional High School and later attended Truro Normal School where she received her teaching licence. After graduation she taught at Cornwallis School and then moved to Halifax where she upgraded her teaching licence at Dalhousie University.
She met and married her husband Charles in 1955 and settled in Rockingham in 1957. Yvonne went back to teaching in 1956 and taught at Grosvenor Wentworth School and then at Rockingham School. After taking time off to raise her children she returned to teaching as a substitute teacher and in 1970 she accepted a full time position at Duc D’Anville School where she taught for twenty three years. Yvonne loved to learn and continued to take courses through out her career graduating with her Master of Education in 1985 from Mount Saint Vincent University.
After retirement in 1993 she became a very active member of her community by taking on the role of secretary for the Rockingham Heritage Society and was on the executive for the Merry Makers and Oceanwaves Square Dancing Clubs. Yvonne loved to spend time with her family at her cottage located in Hackett’s Cove and in her beautiful garden surrounding her home in Rockingham.
She was predeceased by her parents; brother, Robert Woodgate. She will be sadly missed by her husband Charles, her four children, David (Halifax), Peter (Jeannette) Hackett’s Cove, Heather (Ontario), Janet (Wayne) Hackett’s Cove, her six grandchildren Stephanie (Tom), Timothy (Steph), Daniel, Michael (Katie), Amy (Drew), Allison, and her five great grandchildren.
Funeral will take place on August 23, 2017 at 11:00 am at St. Peter’s Anglican Church, Birch Cove. Interment to follow at St. Peter’s Anglican Church, Hackett’s Cove. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Prescott Group, 3430 Prescott Street, or The Canadian Cancer Society.
