A lifelong resident of Hamilton, Dewayne was born July 5, 1952, to Charles and Shirley Neal Clover.
He was a 1970 graduate of Hamilton High School and a 1974 graduate of the
Hamilton General Hospital School of Vocational Nursing. He worked at
the hospital and for EMS for 42 years, retiring in 2014. He graduated with
honors from Messenger College in 1990 with an Associate of Arts degree in
Ministerial Studies with a theology major, philosophy minor. While there, he
was elected Student Congress president and vice president and served as
choir manager, basketball manager and assistant basketball coach. He also
was voted Most Scholarly, Most Dependable and Friendliest and was
inducted into Who’s Who in America’s Universities and Colleges. After
returning to Hamilton, Dewayne served two terms on the Hamilton
Independent School District Board of Trustees and two terms on the
Hamilton Civic Theatre board. He loved being active in church and civic
activities, especially those pertaining to youth and education. He was
a 72-year Bulldog superfan and seldom missed a football game or
opportunity to brag on the team and its players and coaches.
A longtime member and deacon of First Baptist Church, his passions were
God, family and friends. His hobbies were photography, traveling - especially
in the mountains, writing and collecting people. He had a penchant for finding
the extraordinary and extravagant in what others consider mundane.
He abhorred prejudice in any form and believed his mission in life was
to love and care for those around him, which he did without reservation
or condemnation. Dewayne never sought the spotlight, but was an
encourager, supporter and true friend to all who knew him.
He cherished his “people,” and never hesitated to help anyone he could.
He leaves behind a legacy of humble service that will make the way
easier for those who come behind.
He was preceded in death by his parents and nephew Jaime Moser.
Survivors include his sister, Debbie Moser and husband Bill of Hico; niece Carrie Pratt and husband Chris of Hamilton; great-nephews Austin Craig and spouse Kaetlyn Sherman of Hamilton, Rowdy Craig of Stephenville; and Jaden Tedford and Brayden Pratt, both of Hamilton; great-niece Trinity Craig and Wyatt Rinehart of Chandler; great-great-nephews Kanon Craig, Hendrix Craig and Maverick Rinehart; and best friend Drew Dabbs and wife Emily and their children Evangeline, Trey, Annabelle, Emma Faith and Collin.
