Doug was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. On June 10 of this year, he and his beloved wife, Jeane, celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary. Their marriage was one of unwavering love and devotion. It was rare to see one without the other, and if they were together, they were usually holding hands. Their love was evident to everyone who knew them and served as a beautiful example of a life built on faith, commitment, and family.
Doug spent much of his life working hard to provide for his family. He farmed while also serving his community as a school bus driver and maintenance man. Whether he was working in the fields, driving children safely to school, or repairing something that needed fixing, Doug believed in an honest day's work and took pride in caring for others through quiet acts of service.
His faith was central to his life, and he was a faithful member of his church. More than anything, Doug loved his family and treasured the time they spent together.
Family gatherings were often made sweeter by his homemade chocolate pies, so sweet that everyone joked they would "blow the top of your head off." No gathering seemed complete without one, and those pies became just one more way Doug showed his love for the people around him.
What his family will remember most wasn't just what he made, it was how he made them feel. Doug was a steady, calming presence. No matter how loud the room became with children and grandchildren running around, he remained patient, gentle, and kind. His quiet strength had a way of putting people at ease, and his family always knew they could count on him.
Doug is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Jeane Calhoun; his sister, Carolyn Warren and husband Bill; his sons, James Calhoun and wife Nancy, and Mike Calhoun and wife Shannon; his son-in-law, Herman Lanmon Jr.; his grandchildren, Daniel Calhoun; Chris Allen; Travis Calhoun; Ryan Calhoun; Nathan Calhoun; Bradley Lanmon and wife Karra; Chelsea West and husband Jacob; Corbin Lanmon and wife Stephanie; and Lauren Surley and husband Stephen; and several great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father Gayle and Katherine Calhoun, daughter, Ginger Lanmon, and his grandson, Kevin Calhoun.
Doug's legacy is one of love, faith, hard work, and quiet kindness. He will be remembered for his steadfast devotion to Jeane, his unwavering commitment to his family, and the countless lives he touched through a life well lived.
A Graveside Service will be held at Live Oak Cemetery, FM 1241 & CR 424, Hamilton, Texas 76531, on August 8, 2026, at 10:00 am.
