

Ida Martha Heptner Sommerfeld was born January 5, 1921, the daughter of Joseph and Emma Zimmerman Heptner. Ida was the fourth of ten children. There were four boys and six girls in the Heptner family. Ida grew up in the Pottsville, Priddy and Shive areas. She was a Lutheran by faith, baptized February 11, 1921 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Pottsville, Texas. She confirmed her faith October 22, 1933, as she stood before the alter of the Lord at Trinity Lutheran Church in Pottsville, Texas. Her confirmation verse was Romans 8:28 Ida married Amandus Sommerfeld, March 28, 1942 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Aleman, Texas. Ida worked very hard as a farmer’s wife, homemaker and mother of five children. Amandus passed away in 1996 and Ida moved to Hamilton, living at 714 E. Whitney until she asked to go to Hamilton Healthcare on March 20, 2007.
Ida is survived by her children: Joe and Elsie Sommerfeld of Hamilton; Jane and Allen Dodson of Hamilton; Jimmy Sommerfeld of Hamilton; Mrs. Ray (Joy) Sommerfeld of Gatesville and Dale Sommerfeld of Hamilton. Ida has 12 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings: Annie Garrett and husband George of Bryan, Texas; Gertrude Schrank of Azle, Texas; Milton Heptner of Lockhart, Texas and Mrs. Wilbert (Joyce) Heptner of Burkburnett, Texas.
Ida was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Emma Heptner; her husband, Amandus Sommerfeld; three sisters, Elsa Senger, Elfrieda Scott, Meta Sommerfeld and three brothers Ervin Heptner, Walter Heptner, Wilbert Heptner and one son Ray Sommerfeld of Gatesville, Texas.
We rejoice today in the promise of God which he had kept for Ida. Jesus has come to receive her home into eternity and His promise to us is that one day we shall join her.

Ida’s family has requested memorials be given in her honor to St. John Lutheran Church.
