He went to Hamilton schools. He spent 22 years in active duty of the United States Air Force, having been stationed in numerous bases including, Korea, Thailand, Vietnam, Spain and the USA. He was the recipient of numerous military medals including: Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with Valor Device with Three Oak Leaf Clusters, Force Air Good Conduct Medal with Six Oak Leaf Clusters, National Defense Service Medal with One Bronze Star, Vietnam Service Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal with Bronze Star, Air Force Overseas Short Tour with Three Oak Leaf Clusters, Air Force Overseas Long Tour Ribbon, Air Force Longevity Service Award Ribbon with Four Oak Leaf Clusters, NCO Professional Military Education Graduate with Ribbon with One Oak Leaf Cluster, Air Force Training Ribbon, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Device, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. Jacks Primary Specialty being Tactical Air Force Maintenance Craftsman 14 years and 10 months and Vehicle/Operator Dispatcher Journeyman, 7 years, 11 months with last Duty and Major Command 62 Fighter SQ (AETC). He Volunteered Retirement with Honorable Discharge December 02, 1991 from Luke AFB, Arizona. He worked in Security in the Prison System after retirement from the Air Force. He spent his last years riding his motorcycle around Hamilton, the Blue Ridge Mountains, Colorado and South Dakota.
He was preceded in death by his parents George(Jack) and Evelyn Massingill Whitmire; step mother Anita Massingill and step dad Cletus Whitmire.
He is survived by his three sisters, Linda Curry, Brenda Schrank, Connie Jones and husband David; nephews: Darren Price, Rick Price, Lance Curry, Jody Lawson, Ace Thompson; nieces: Lisa Johnson, Gina Poe, and Jennifer Thompson; best friends and neighbors Ric and Frances John, Travis and Camille Beinhauer.
