John Clark Jones, or J.C. as most people would call him, was born on March 28th, 1956 in Gatesville, TX. He was welcomed into this world by his mother Mary Francis Jones and his father Paul Rea Jones. John is survived by three older siblings Glenn & David Jones, and Kay Hopper. From what I understand, Glenn and David were your typical rough and tough, but still protective big brothers, and Kay, who often called him, “Clarkie”, was his nurturing big sister. John grew up in Hamilton, but spent the majority of high school in Shiprock, New Mexico, where his parents were missionaries on the Indian Reservation. He also is survived by the woman he loved and was married to for 45 years, Michele Jones, originally Dana Michele O’Bannon. Though she wasn’t convinced to date him at first, despite her mom’s wishes and constant encouragement, Michele gave John a chance, and they never looked back. They were married on May 31st in 1980 and have continued to build on their marriage every day for 45 wonderful years. On August 29th 1983, they welcomed their first born, Jana Lee Jones, who is a teacher, coach, and amazing mother to her daughter Jaycee Rea. By this time, they had lived in two houses, houses that John had built himself. Then, he quickly got to work on that 3rd house. Their second child, Jeffrey Clark Jones, was born on April 7th 1988, who is married to Amanda Lee and has three amazing children, Jase Clark, Brynley Lee, and Jax Bannon. John would go on to build two more houses with his own hands, for his family, as well as instruct and assist Jeffrey with the building of their house. John was a builder, through and through.
John was a man of many talents, and that is not a figure of speech. He not only could do anything with his hands, but he could do them quite well. He and his father worked together at their business, J & J Hardware, for years until his father’s passing. J.C. then started his welding and construction business, J.C. Jones Company, in 1981. There is no telling how many buildings, houses, entrances, BBQ pits, trailers, etc. that John built, not to mention the numerous welding repair jobs and the metal artwork that he did, all by hand for years. To say he was a hard worker would be simply an understatement. John wasn’t a man that went on vacations, he was a man that started and ended his workday in the dark. John did this to provide for his family which he loved so much.
John was a member of the Evant Church of Christ. Like his father Paul Rea, he served as a Deacon and eventually an Elder for a total of 33 years. John loved the church. He took his faith, being a Christian, and teaching his children very serious, and placed it as the top priority. He was a leader, a listener, and a brother to many church members. He did everything he could as an elder to make sure that the church worshipped in both spirit and truth, and to shepherd it’s members so that they could have the hope of eternal life in Heaven that was made possible by Jesus.
On September 26th, 2025, John cashed in on that reward. You would like to say, “he earned it”, but you cannot earn what has been given to you. Even so, he lived everyday trying to be the best example, Christian, teacher, friend, brother, Pepaw, Dad, and Husband he could possibly be, and moreover, was absolutely successful at it.
