

Connie Leroy Yarbrough,71, of Evant, left this world April 5th, 2013 surrounded by his children and grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, April 7, at the First United Methodist Church in Evant. Burial was in the Murphree Cemetery.
He was born December 1st, 1941 in Gorman, TX and graduated from Olden High School in 1960. He married Linda Drennan in 1961. He served as a military police officer in the United States Army for 4 years; stationed with the Second Armored Division at Ft. Hood and participated in Operation Big Lift in Germany.
After leaving the military, he worked for General Dynamics and Texas Instruments. He was later a newspaper publisher, owning the Evant News and Lometa Bulletin and serving as managing editor for the Whitney Star. He was a real estate broker, author, and Texas historian: published works include his Vanishing Texas magazine & his book, Canyon of the Eagles, as well as a number of short stories and syndicated articles.
Leroy was a civic leader in the Evant community and served as mayor for a number of years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, C.A. & Georgia Yarbrough, his brother, James Yarbrough & his wife of 35 years, Linda. He is survived by his siblings, Juanita Williams and husband Bob of Arlington, Raymond Yarbrough and wife Sandy of Carbon; his children, Cathy Kolodziej and husband Mike of Hamilton, Hunter Yarbrough of Austin, and Sarah McDowell and husband Cole of San Saba; Grandchildren Brent Clary and wife Ashlee of Grapevine, Blake Clary and wife Hannah of Santo, Clinton Clary of Lometa, Paul Yarbrough of New York, Stephanie Yarbrough of Colorado, and Macye McDowell of San Saba. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and other family members, friends, and loved ones. Riley Funeral Home in Hamilton was in charge of the arrangements.
