Mary M. "Maxine" Davis was born November 8, 1936, in Brown Community near Ackerly, Texas, to R.C. and Bertie Stocks. As the only daughter in a family of five, Maxine grew up as a rough and tumble kid in this farming community until the family moved into Big Spring, Texas, where she Graduated from Big Spring High School and attended Howard County Junior College. While working for the local electric utility she met a young Air Force Pilot, Richard “Dick” Davis, who quickly became the love of her life. They married and began their more than sixty-year journey together. Maxine and Dick had two sons, Eric and Kent, and as an Air Force family they lived across the United States and in Germany and England. Upon retirement from the Air Force, Maxine and Dick spent several years in Riyad Saudia Arabia. Upon Dick’s final retirement, Maxine and Dick returned to reside in the home they had purchased in Hamilton, Texas, where they lived the remainder of their lives raising spotted donkeys, and enjoying time spent with family and friends. Maxine and Dick travelled much in retirement, visiting six continents. Maxine was a gifted crafter. She enjoyed creating quilts, stained glass pieces and hooked rugs. Maxine was an avid golfer and dearly loved her weekly rounds of golf with her ladies. She also loved her green house, beautifying their home with both indoor and outdoor plants. And every afternoon possible, 5:00 was spent on their front porch with a glass of red wine and a beer.
Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Dick, and her brother Carthan Joe. She is survived by her two sons Eric Davis (Lisa Davis), Kent Davis (Monica Davis) and her beloved granddaughter Sarah Davis, as well as her brother Hershel Stocks.
Memorial Service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church in Hamilton, Texas on November 15th at 1:00pm, Maxine will be interred with her husband Dick shortly thereafter at the Dallas National Cemetery with highest military honors.
