

Ollie Joseph “Slim” Olson, age 93, of Waco, a longtime resident of Hamilton, passed away March 21, 2010 in a Waco Care Center. Ollie was born February 27, 1917, in Walnut Springs to Aslak & Almedia Olson, he was one of thirteen children.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church, a volunteer with the Hamilton Fire Department and retired from the State Highway Department.
From his childhood, Ollie was a passionate hunter and fisherman, always looking forward to the opening day of deer season. He was also talented when it came to games, and some of his favorite times where spent playing dominoes with his sons or his friends or even rolling the dice to see who paid for coffee at the drug store. Ollie’s favorite sport was football with baseball as number two. Other pastimes included reading and watching Westerns.
Ollie was a decorated veteran of World War II having served in Patton’s Third Army, a survivor of the Battle of the Bulge and a recipient of the Purple Heart.
Ollie was a man of few words and of strong faith.
He was preceded in death by his mother & father, his twelve siblings and a son, Joseph Lynn Olson.
He was survived by his wife of 59 years, Katherine Grant Olson of Hamilton, two children Reggie Olson and his wife Mary of Waco, TX and Kathy Lyons and her husband Dick of Ft. Wayne, Indiana, two grandchildren, Michael Olson of Waco and Regina Long and her husband Brady of Richwood, TX numerous nieces, nephews and innumerable friends.
The Olson family will receive guests for a time of visitation from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, March 23, 2010 at Riley Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 24, 2010 in the chapel of Riley Funeral Home. Interment services will follow in Oakwood cemetery.
Services have been entrusted to the care of Riley Funeral Home in Hamilton.
