Phyllis June Kinsey Hivnor was born in Temple, Texas, alongside her twin sister, Jean. They were the daughters of Ollie Kinsey and Ina Jenkins Kinsey. June spent her school years in Texas, attending high school in Miles and later pursuing her college education at San Angelo State University. After marrying Phillip Hivnor, who preceded her in death, they moved to Chicago, Illinois. Both Phil and June were employed by the Ford Motor Company and eventually retired from the same organization.
Following their retirement, they relocated to Pottsville, Texas, where they joined family members who were descendants of Captain John Potts, the individual who donated the land for the Pottsville Cemetery. Family was very important to June; she hosted the Kinsey Family Reunion each year alongside her sister, Barbara Jean Tomlinson, as well as Dale Alan Kinsey. Her brother, James “Jim” William Kinsey, passed away before her.
June was a Master Gardener who loved sharing plants, particularly irises, and amassed a collection of over 500 varieties at one point. She was also active in Home Demonstration and the Red Hat Society. June enjoyed playing cards with friends and family, always keeping a sharp eye on the scorepad.
June was loving, funny, and a joy to be around. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Graveside services will be held at a later date.
