V.B. Munday passed from this earth to his heavenly home on September 25, 2019, in Hamilton, Texas. He was born January 12, 1921, to Julius Edward and Edna Pearl (Stanford) Munday in Hamilton County community of Shive. On July 12, 1945, he married Nelda Emily Wagner and had one child, Connie Lynell. After Nelda passed on August 25, 1973, he married Movelda (Swopes) Burks in 1982.
For many years, V.B. owned and operated Munday’s Cleaners under the motto: “Munday’s Cleaners for Sunday’s cloths”. To young and old alike he was known as “The Lemon Drop Man” due to always-accessible lemon drop candies in the glass jar by the cash register. V.B. was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Hamilton where he served on the administrative board, various committees, and ushered. V.B. known for his love of God and for his family and friends. His selflessness was apparent to all who knew him. Nothing tickled him more than a game of Wahoo, or 42, or croquet at Grandpa and Grandma Wagner’s farm.
V.B. was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Nelda, and eight siblings.
He is survived by his daughter, Connie; his son-in-law Robert Dale Sills; grandson David Sills and wife, Lacey and their daughters Hadley, Hensely, Hollyn; his wife Velda; and his sister, Myrtice (Munday) Phears, brother-in-law, Raymond Charles and wife Verlene Wagner; sister-in-law, Betty Wagner.
Surviving children include Debra (Burks) Recindus and husband, Richard; Dick Burks and wife Renee; Dennis Burks and wife Lou; and Donnie Burks and wife Carrie.
Other survivors include eleven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren along with numerous nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to the church organization of choice.
A celebration of the life of V.B. Munday was held on Saturday September 29, at 10:00 a.m. in the First United Methodist Church of Hamilton. Reverend Samantha Chambers officiated the service with Barbara Sanders, soloist, and Alice Eakins, pianist. Visitation was at 9:00 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall. Interment was in Oakwood Cemetery.
Pallbearers: Doyle Munday, David Sills, Mike Holt, Ronnie Munday, Ronnie Wagner, Cliff Crumley, Trevor Tumlinson, and Payne Burks.
Honorary pallbearers: Dale Munday, Butch Munday, Thurlow Rowe, Jr., Ricky Stagner, Raymond Wagner, Jack Sauer, Rick Schneider, Zachary Burks, Ryan Burks and Aaron Burks.
