Warren was born on November 4, 1940, in New York City and grew up in the Sacramento Valley of California. He graduated from what is now Los Angeles State College and earned a Master’s in history from the University of Wisconsin at Madison and a Ph.D. in political science from the University of Oregon.
In 1969 he moved to College Station, Texas, and began a teaching career of some 45 years in the Texas A&M University political science department. His career included several years of service as an undergraduate academic advisor. For his advising, he was awarded the Association of Former Students Distinguished Student Service Award.
In 1975 he married Mary Lenn Miller, and the couple had two children. They moved to Austin after retirement and celebrated their fiftieth anniversary in February of this year.
Warren is survived by his wife; daughter Sarah (Doug); son Rob (Jordan); five grandchildren, Owen and Henry Dixon of Austin, and Marshall, McKinley, and Miller Chumley of Iowa Colony, Texas; brother-in-law Roger Miller of Hamilton; sister-in-law Ann Barlow (Brooks); and their families.
A graveside service for Warren will be held Saturday, July 5, 2025 at 11:00 AM at IOOF Cemetery, Highway at 81 North, Hamilton, Texas 78731.
