Joyce Elaine Golden

Born May 20, 1948 in Catawissa, PA, she was the daughter of the late Jackson “Jack” G. and Pauline M. (Houser) Artley.

Surviving is her husband of 59 years, Thomas H. Golden; two daughters, Christi G. Cartwright and her husband, Matthew and Cindi E. Horshaw and her husband, Winston; five grandchildren, Jordan Horshaw and his fiancée, Miranda, Kevin Cartwright and his wife, Kirstin, Cade Cartwright, Winston Horshaw II and Leilah Horshaw; two great-grandchildren, Roman and Shiloh Horshaw; and her sister, Jacqueline Tindal. She is also survived by her two sister-in-laws, Kathy Shaffer and Betty Ann Golden, as well as a host of nieces and nephews.

Joyce was a graduate of Central Dauphin East High School, class of 1966. After graduating high school, she began working for the Commonwealth of PA. Joyce retired from the Commonwealth in 2007 after 37 years of service with her most recent position being a human resource analyst with the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.

Joyce cherished her family and being a Nana above all else. Those who knew her, knew how much her family meant to her and how protective she was of them. She was the “glue” that held everything together even through her health struggles that started in 2018.

Even as her health declined, she would light up every time she was surrounded by family.

The family was blessed to have a team of amazing caregivers for Joyce over the past 3 1/2 years who, even as her needs increased, made it possible to keep her in her home and cared for until her passing. The family is forever bonded with all those who have loved and cared for Nana/Joyce.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:30 AM Monday, July 27,2026 in the Neill Funeral Home, 3501 Derry St., Harrisburg. Internment will be at the discretion of the family. A visitation will be from 10:30 AM Monday until the time of the service at the funeral home.
