Julia Rebecca Smith (née Dianderas), aged 91, passed away on August 9, 2026, in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Born on September 6, 1934, in Peru, she was the cherished daughter of the late Jesus Torres Dianderas and Luisa Ponce De Leon and preceded in death by her husband, Edward Smith; and her sister, Doris Soce.
Julia had a distinguished career, having retired from Highmark Insurance and the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, where she dedicated many years of service. She was a devout member of St. Catherine Laboure Catholic Church in Harrisburg, where she found great solace and community.
An avid cook, Julia enjoyed nothing more than spending time with her friends and family, creating meals that brought everyone together. Her warmth and generosity will be remembered by all who knew her.
She is survived by her sister, Blanca I. La Torre, along with many loving nieces and nephews who will miss her dearly.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in her honor on Friday, August 14, 2026, at 12:30 PM at St. Catherine Laboure Catholic Church, located at 4000 Derry St., Harrisburg. A viewing will be held at 11:30 AM Friday until the time of the service at the church. Julia will be laid to rest at Churchville Cemetery in Oberlin.
