

Michael A. Butler, 75, of Mechanicsburg, PA, passed away on Sunday June 21, 2026, at his home. He was born on 12 January 1951 in Harrisburg, PA. He was the son of the late G. Eleanor & Donald J. Butler Sr. He was predeceased by his son Matthew T. Butler and brother Donald J. Butler Jr.
He is survived by his wife Darlene I. Butler (married 42 years), daughter Julie A. Miller, stepdaughter Jennifer Osterlund (Jason), sister Vivian Lee Anderson, daughter in law Chris Butler and 5 grandsons; Joshua and Dillon Miller, Grant, Gavin and Garrett Osterlund and several nieces and nephews.
Michael graduated from Central Dauphin East High School, class of 1968, and joined the Harrisburg Police Bureau in 1969 as a cadet and rose through the ranks as a Patrolman, Detective in the Juvenile Division, Sergeant of the Traffic Safety Unit, and Lieutenant in the Patrol Division, retiring in January 2001.
He attended HACC and various traffic schools at Northwestern University and North Florida University.
He worked for the PA National Horse Show as Police Security for 50 years, retiring in 2019. He was currently employed by LB Smith Ford Lincoln as a shuttle driver (#4) since 2005.
Michael was an active and life member of the Fraternal Order of Police, Capitol City Lodge #12, was on the executive board, and President of the Harrisburg Police Assoc. He was also a delegate to PA State FOP and National FOP conferences.
He was an avid Penn State fan and enjoyed watching the Steelers, Eagles, and Phillies. He enjoyed their beach house in Calabash, NC, golfing, stained glass and gardening.
A viewing will be held on Tuesday June 30, 2026, at Neill Funeral Home 3501 Derry St Harrisburg from 9:30am-11:00am, with a funeral service at 11:00am. Interment will follow at the Paxtang Cemetery.
