Born March 15, 1938, in Harrisburg, he was the son of the late Clark and Audrey (Kautz) Gibney.
Surviving is his wife of 66 years, Janet (Finnell) Gibney; daughter, Susan Pankake and her husband, Timothy; son, Richard “Rick” Gibney and his wife, Theresa; and two grandchildren, Nicholas Gibney and Lauren Gibney.
Richard was a Realtor and Appraiser, he worked for Jack Gaughen, Stuard Derrick, Detwiler, and also the owner of Dick Gibney Real Estate. He was a member of the State Board of Certified Appraisers, Harrisburg Association of Realtors, and had served on the Dauphin County Tax Assessment Board.
His work was a hobby having lifelong friends and an interest in others. He was an avid sports fan, golfer and bowler, and enjoyed the Phillies, Eagles, and Arnold Palmer. His family was most important to him and was always willing to provide his wisdom.
He was a former member of Colonial Country Club, the Second United Church of Christ, and attended the Gravel Hill United Methodist Church, Palmyra. He also served in the Army Reserves.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, August 18, 2026, in the Neill Funeral Home, 3501 Derry St., Harrisburg. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery. A visitation will be from 10:00 AM Tuesday until the time of the service at the funeral home.
