Adelheid (known by most as Heidi) was interested in sewing and needlecrafts. She obtained a tailor apprenticeship in Stuttgart where she achieved certification. During that time, Heidi met her future husband, Donato D’Amore, an American soldier with the US Army Air Corps occupation forces. They were married in Bridgeport, CT in 1949 when Heidi was 19 years old. She quickly adjusted to her new country and her husband’s Italian culture. She joined the Catholic faith and studied for US citizenship. Soon Heidi took on the “mommy” role for their newborn twin boys.
A short time later, Heidi was immersed into the life of a US military spouse, moving six times during Donato’s lengthy US Air Force career. In later years, she managed the family affairs during his long deployments to Thailand and Vietnam.
The couple retired at Hesperia, CA. Heidi was fond of cooking and baking. She made beautiful needlepoint pictures that decorated her house. Heidi used tailoring skills to make clothes for the family and occasionally worked in tailor shops. Heidi and Donato were married 68 years when he passed away. Her own health declining, Heidi chose a beautiful assisted-living facility in Victorville, CA. where she passed away peacefully. She will be very much missed by family and friends.
Heidi was preceded in death by her parents Karl Ebert, and Wilhemina Stumm, and her husband, Donato D’Amore. She is survived by her brother, Walter Stumm and wife Inge of Dettenhausen, Germany. She is also survived by her two sons; Dan and wife Kathey of Little Rock, AR; and George and wife Barbara of Albuquerque, NM. Heidi was blessed with four grandchildren: Dominique, Michael, Danielle, and Thomas and four great grandchildren: Joseph, Gavin, Brianna, and Elise.
