Anna Stevens, a resident of Apple Valley, California for 54 years, passed away peacefully at home on September 28, 2026, from complications of dementia. Born on February 14, 1936, in Manhattan, New York, she lived on Long Island until 1950, when her mother moved her and her three sisters to City Terrace, California. She lived a long life, touched the hearts of many throughout the Valley, and will be deeply missed.
Anna was a bookkeeper and did office work until Alpha Beta opened in 1975 in Apple Valley. She worked as a full-time bookkeeper, then migrated to a grocery checker, where everyone knew her smile, teasing, and sassy personality. When Lucky’s took over, she transferred to San Bernardino, then Albertson’s took over where she later retired in 2001. Anna was an avid bowler, knitted and crotched until her heart was content while attending “class” at Victor Valley College for about 3 decades. She enjoyed helping others and donated her works to both people and animal shelters.
Anna was preceded in death by her husband of 23 years, Clifford Stevens; Anthony Gams Jr., the father of her children; and her half-sister, Pat. She is survived by her three children, Lisa Gams Ponn (John), Thomas Gams, and Linda Gray, who cared for her at home; her sisters, Eanthy (Judy) Zeltman and Farida Annette Fries; nephews, nieces; and her grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at Desert View Memorial Park on Saturday, October 24, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. A luncheon will follow at Anna’s favorite restaurant, Los Domingo’s in Apple Valley. Because seating is limited, the luncheon is reserved for immediate family, coworkers, and very close friends only.
