Helen Roberta (Miller) McKee passed from this life into her heavenly home on January 11, 2021. She was born on the family farm near Vanlue, Ohio on January 25, 1924 to J. Lee and Lydia (Crates) Miller. After graduating in 1942 she worked as a secretary while her high school sweetheart, Reid , served in the Army. They were married June 1, 1946 and Reid began a career in construction. The young family moved to California in 1953, ultimately settling in Yermo. Apart from an enjoyable 3 year interlude in Hawaii for Reid’s work in the 70’s, Yermo was their home until moving into Assisted Living. Roberta held several secretarial positions in Yermo and Barstow schools until her retirement in 1984. Early on she enjoyed square dancing, sewing club, playing Bunco, and being a Cub Scout leader. Later in life her hobbies included oil painting, crochet, plastic canvas crafts and collecting. She was also a Barstow Hospital Auxiliary member for 20 years. Her daily dose of “The Price is Right” paid off when she was able to be in the studio audience and then selected to be on stage with Bob Barker, and win prizes. She and Reid pitched horseshoes for many years in multiple locations and won numerous awards. Their RV travels took them to all 50 states, Canada and Mexico, making friends and visiting family along the way. She especially enjoyed spending time with and helping out all her grandchildren. Roberta loved life, got along with everyone she met, was a tireless worker and
remained spry up until her passing. For the last 3 years she was a resident of Sterling Inn in Victorville, CA, where, in spite of dementia, she will be remembered for her skill at pool, playing
cards and working puzzles. A celebration of life event will be held at a later date.
She is survived by Children, Susan(Dick) Wohlgemuth of Spring Grove, MN; Steven(Sharon)McKee of Kailua-Kona, Hawaii; Kathryn(Bobby)Wallace of Newberry Springs, CA; David(Lynn) McKee of Yermo, CA; 20 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, and 4 great great grandchildren She was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, Reid, parents, brother Jack Miller, sister, Janette Worden and 2 grandsons.
