Marlyn Elaine Buchanan, 67, of Apple Valley, CA, went to be with her Lord and Savior, on Sunday, June 14, 2015 at Arrowhead Regional Medical Center. She was born on September 22, 1947, in Breckinridge, MN, the daughter of Hobart and Hildred (Dickenson) Casteel. She is survived by her daughter Mona (Taylor) Reeder, her son-in-law Dickey Reeder, and their two children – Tristan and Rowan – all of Apple Valley. Other survivors include her sister Benita (Glenn) Kliethermes, of Holts Summit, Missouri and her brother Darrell Casteel, of the State
of Arizona, a niece Jodi (Nelson) Snyder, Jacksonville, Florida and Jodi’s children, Collin (Freiderike) and Elise. Marlyn was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Ronald Edward Casteel.
Marlyn was a talented individual that was recognized for her teaching ability, love of painting, writing, music and crafts/sewing. She held a dual Master’s Degree in Special Education and Art. She taught special education in the school systems in the State of California and Tennessee. She was the owner/operator/art instructor at her art studio in St. Augustine Beach, Florida and won several art awards in the State of Florida, State of Missouri and State of California. Additionally, she had a passion for genealogy and loved exploring her family “roots” in the State of Virginia.
In 2009, she retired from the Greene County School district in Tennessee and moved back to the State of California to be near her daughter and grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held in her honor at Victorville Assembly of God, Victorville, CA, on July 31, 2015 at 10:00 am. Some of her art work will be on display during that memorial.
