Sincerest condolences on behalf of my mother, Sheila Dottin who passed away June 2007.
My name is Terry Dottin-Romero and I had the privilege of meeting your mom several times when I visited my mom at her work. Mummy was very happy working for your mom and she spoke of her kindheartedness all the time. She also loved you all very much.

Judge Eisenberg was a wonderful judge as well as an unparalleled mentor and boss.  She agreed to hire me as her clerk even though I knew very little about consumer bankruptcy and proceeded to patiently teach me over many years.  She also gave me the opportunity to job share at a time when it was extremely uncommon, especially within the Judiciary.  I had the pleasure of getting to know her lovely family and her children were very gracious to me whenever we would meet. I  know she treasured her children and grandchildren so much!  She always kept me up to date with their latest accomplishments, and she was a truly proud mother and grandmother. I remain forever in her debt and I will never forget her kindness and compassion on and off the bench. 
I am heartbroken by her passing but may she  rest in peace with the knowledge that she touched the lives of so many.   She truly made a difference in this world. 

Over a quarter century ago, a young passionate lawyer coming out of law school awaiting admission, I argued my first contested motion before Judge Eisenberg.  My current partner stood there next to me and introduced me to Judge Eisenberg and asked for permission to allow me to argue the motion as I was awaiting admission.  She agreed.   After a couple of minutes of speaking, a little cotton mouth and clearly some nerves, Judge Eisenberg interrupted me merely to tell me you are doing good just slow down a bit.  She then asked me some really simple questions to calm me down.  As I answered each question, I became more relaxed.  My adversary was a veteran in the bankruptcy field and we had an interesting issue.  We went back and forth and she guided me but definitely challenged my thinking and allowed me to articulate the argument.  When it was over I was relieved but super excited about the future and this field of law. 

Almost ten years later, she called me one day and asked to speak to me.  My heart was pounding again.  She sat me down and asked me to research and start a local program called CARE.  Not sure if many know this, but Judge Eisenberg was passionate about the CARE program - It is Credit Abuse Resistance Education.  Judge Eisenberg wanted it developed on Long Island and in NYC.  I was honored she asked me to lead this charge and I went to work learning everything I could and then speaking at high schools all over Long Island and NYC educating students on credit.  I also coordinated many other bankruptcy practitioners to do the same. 
 She directed this program for many years and urged us to continue it, which we did and it was very successful.  She was always about education and making sure the youth knew how credit worked.  

Finally, I want to thank the family for an amazing rejoice and memory of Judge Eisenberg.  I was captivated by the stories and thoroughly enjoyed the memorial.

When I became a judge, every time I saw Judge Eisenberg she made a point of talking to me and asking me how I was doing.  She was so kind and gracious.  I missed seeing her these past few  years.  What a blessing she was to the legal community as well as to her family.  May her memory be a blessing.

I had the honor of being Judge Eisenberg's first Law Clerk.  I quickly learned that that she was extremely knowledgeable in Bankruptcy Law and that she worked extremely hard to always do what was right in the matters that came before her.   She was a wonderful person and a great Judge and mentor.  I owe much of my success in my legal career to her and her confidence in me.   I will always remember that on my last day she told me that the best advice that she could give me as I entered private practice  was that I should always remember that no client and no amount of money would be worth compromising my integrity.  In the 30 plus years since my clerkship ended I have always followed that advice.   Her life's accomplishments were remarkable and  are the best evidence of what a great person she was.   For her family,  i know that was she was very proud of you all and  may your fond memories provide you peace as you go through these tough times.  She will always have a place in my heart.   May she RIP.

Judge Eisenberg took the bench a few years after I started practicing bankruptcy law.  I appeared before her hundreds of times and win or lose, she always did the right thing.   I soon figured out that she got her hair done on Wednesdays and was in a much better mood on Thursdays.  So that is when I put my motions on for.  I told her that years later and she got a good laugh out of it.  For her family, she packed more living and accomplishment into one life than most people could accomplish in two, And, she did it on her terms.  I will miss her,  and her  memory is a blessing !

Dorothy was a wonderful friend and colleague when we served together  She welcome me to our court and remained a friendly ear for the years after her well deserved retirement.  Her life story has served as an inspiration to so many especially young women. May her memory be for a blessing.
