Joan Hartstein, born April 21, 1929, passed away peacefully on December 8, 2020. She had a full and blessed life filled with family and friends whose life journeys she touched and deeply influenced with her love, sacrifices, and caring. Joan’s devotion to education and caring were exemplified by her work as an administrative assistant at the Brandeis School in Lawrence, NY, and later work as an administrative assistant for 25 years for Louis Engel & Co., in Lynbrook, NY, where she helped the company in the development of assisted living facilities.
Joan’s immediate family is grateful for the caring and devotion she showed them over many years, especially for the ways that she nurtured her children and grandchildren as they pursued education and other opportunities. They stayed close and treasured their time with her as the years went by because of Joan’s dedication to them.
Joan is survived by son Howard (Christine) Lemberg; by daughter Susan (Vincent) Lattuca; and by sister Millie Beck. She was predeceased by son Jeffrey Lemberg. With Joan’s marriage to Dr. Harold Hartstein in 1986, the circle of Joan’s family expanded to include Harold’s children and grand-children. She will be missed by Louise (Stephen) Feffer; by Barbara (James) Mercer; and by Alan (Barbara) Hartstein. In addition, Joan is survived by ten grand-children and five great grand-children.
The immediate family has arranged a private burial service. Electronic notifications will be sent to family and friends so they can stream the event online or playback a recording later on.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. The organization’s home page can be found at https://www.alz.org/. The donation page has a check box to note that the donation is in memory of Joan Hartstein. If family or friends want written notification sent to the immediate family, it can be sent to Susan Lattuca.
