Gerstel, Joel M., of Cedarhurst, NY, born April 23, 1935; died January 21, 2016 after a prolonged illness. Son of the late Mayme and Julius Gerstel, devoted husband of Deanne Josephs Gerstel, loving father of Sharon, Jeffrey and the late Gary, father-in-law of Karen, proud Grandfather of Dylan, Alexandra and Maggie and brother of Joanne. Retired as President and CEO of the American Parkinson Disease Association. Former owner of Westrich Restaurant in Rockaway Park, NY Past President of Temple Israel of Lawrence, Great Neck Rotary Club, Chamber of Commerce of the Rockaways, and past Chairman of Community Planning Board 14, Queens.
Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, January 25, 2016, at Temple Israel of Lawrence, 140 Central Ave, Lawrence, NY. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the American Parkinson Disease Association to support research or to Temple Israel of Lawrence.
