Marilyn Hoffman, 83, beloved wife for 65 years of Philip, treasured mother to Barbara and Stephen,mother-in-law of Bruce and Senta and doting grandmother of Sam, died Friday, May 8. She lived for the last 45 years in Hewlett. An accomplished pianist (and Juilliard dropout), she was for years the Marvin Hamlisch of Brooklyn’s PS 115, where she wrote and directed her sixth grade students in musicals she adapted from “Pajama Game,” “Dr. Doolittle” and many more. Upon retiring at age 55, she became an avid and hands-on member of several music clubs, including the Friday Woodmere Music Club and APTLI (Association of Piano Teachers of Long Island). A witty, wise and wonderful woman, she leaves behind many friends and relatives, chief among them Carole Campbell, who was practically a sister to her, and her children, Debbie and David. Marilyn, the youngest of four children born to Ida and Jacob Dubitsky of Brooklyn, lost her brothers Marty and Michael and is survived by Larry and his wife, Sorah, of Portland, Ore. She is mourned by their children, many of whom — Tony Dubitsky, Patti Dennis, Bruce Dennis and Barry Dennis — considered her their second mother.
