Growing up Steven was always a fixture in our home.  Always kind, warm hearted, funny and eager to read from the Haggadah during Passover.  He really was a mensch who put others first.  He was also the genealogist of the family.  I loved how he collected and learned more about  our shared ancestry.
I'm sad I was not able to make the funeral, but I promise to light a candle for him and say a prayer on this upcoming birthday.
Rest in peace, Steven.  I know my father will be waiting for you with open arms.

Steven was our dearest friend for over a quarter century.  We've never known a more genuinely decent and fair-minded person .   Hundreds of times we met and conversed.  He was absolutely incapable of the slightest meanness  and expressed a spiritual attitude toward life that was inspired by conclusions he drew from his own experiences.  He never showed resentment, even when disappointed.  He was tolerant, forgiving, and without any self-pity.  He showed courage in many situations.

He  felt nostalgic for  1950s music and was a devoted teacher, filled with idealism.  He shared many poignant recollections of his life.

 His loss is incalculably grievous .
