How to best immortalize and truly summarize a lost loved one? Vic Kersten was a character, a husband, a father, a grandfather, an uncle and a friend. In many ways he was larger than life. He was filled to the brim with stories starting in pre-world War II England. Born a good Jewish Boy, he and his sister were sent for their own protection to live in the country in foster homes to avoid the bombings in London. Required by his host family to attended church, in true Vic style he took it up a notch and excelled as an alter boy. He was always grateful for the education he received that he never would not have gotten in London.
He came to America at 21 in 1952 on the Queen Mary. It was not long after that, that a local merchant saw a picture of Eileen in her Mother's wallet. He suggested a set up with his nephew, and the rest is history.
He and his wife developed a successful business in the souvenir industry and for many years enjoyed traveling thought the United States to major tourist spots that they serviced.
He had an incredible love for his family, grandchildren and cats, and like fine wine improved with age and mellowed to a priceless vintage.
His story telling ability, and sarcastic sense of humor was unmatched.
Although he has left this world as we know it, our memories of him will sustain us for our lifetime, and the stories we will share will pass generations.
