Antonio S. Martinez Sr.

Antonio S. Martinez, age 90, of Gary, IN passed away peacefully on December 15, 2017 with family at his side. Antonio is survived by his wife Carlota of 59 years; brother, Ramiro Martinez; children: Henry and Ernie Martinez (Annette) of Santa Maria, CA, Antonio, Jr. (Elizabeth) Martinez of Gary, IN and Celia Martinez of Schererville, IN; grandchildren: Jackie, Joe, Melissa, Jenelle and Randy Martinez and Elsa-Alexandria Atuatasi; great grandchildren: Tony, Ray, Christopher, Katie, Brody, Quin, Annabel, Ariana, Andrea, Kali Elizabeth and Ember Rose; and numerous nieces and nephews. Antonio was preceded in death by parents: Cristobal and Modesta Martinez; parents in law: Agustin and Celia Olivas; siblings: Maria Luisa Bautista, Maria Transito Martinez, Racquel Martinez, Cecelia Torres and Luis Martinez. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, December 23, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. DIRECTLY at St. Mary Catholic Church, 525 N. Broad St., Griffith, IN with Rev. Theodore Mens officiating. Entombment will follow at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, Crown Point, IN. Friends are invited to meet with the family Friday, December 22, 2017 from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. (prayer service 7:30 p.m.) at Kuiper Funeral Home, 9039 Kleinman Road (two blocks south of Ridge Road) Highland, IN. Antonio retired from Inland Steel Company after 30 years of service. He was a member of Holy Rosary Church for over 50 years. Antonio was an avid wrestling fan and loved to swim and dance. He also enjoyed good food.
