“Cayin” was a living legend in the community of East ChIcago. His store was a beacon of Puerto Rican culture where emigrants from Puerto Rico got a slice of home & subsequent generations where able to experience authentic culture & cuisine. I am blessed to have been ushered through the distinctions of different types of verdura by him, taught how to select bone-in bacalao & enjoyed the lechón he roasted on Saturdays for our community’s delight. He shewed away children & could be seen treating them on occasion to the candy of their choice. Easy credit on consumables was the hallmark ok his business. His trust in his community superseded the gruff exterior he yearned to portray. He has been missed since the store closed years ago. I am thankful for he & his wife’s kindness. When my son died we cried. When their son died we did the same. Condolences to all who mourn Cayin’s passing. May he Rest In Peace. 🇵🇷

My deepest condolences to Judy and the family. 😢🙏 I'll always remember when Tony Santiago Rodriguez worked at Don Cajin's store roasting pigs and how they got along so good for years and years! My precious sister Elizabeth Rodriguez met Don Cajin through Tony and they became good friends. Now they're resting in peace in our Lord's Kingdom together. Until we meet again...🙏
