Barry Ruse was a devoted father, grandfather, and friend whose life was marked by dedication, humor, and deep love for his family.
He was the proud father of Samantha Sohaney (Ruse), wife of Tim Sohaney, and loving grandfather to Madeline Sohaney. He was also the devoted father of his youngest son, Michael Ruse.
Barry worked for Nabisco, Salerno, and Archway Cookies for many years and was affectionately known as the “Cookie Man.” There were always cookies in the house during those years. After his wife passed away, Barry retired shortly thereafter to care for Michael, who was just four years old at the time. His family was always his first priority. He attended Living Stones Church faithfully for many years with his wife and daughter.
Barry was an avid bowler with many trophies to show for it. He also enjoyed golfing and fishing. One unforgettable family memory was a golf outing with his daughter that ended with a partially flipped golf cart — a story that always brought laughter.
In retirement, Barry enjoyed simple pleasures; visiting St. John Auto, BMO Harris, and Midwest Insurance just to chat with friends. He loved going out for a bite to eat and seeing a movie, and he enjoyed watching the game with friends.
Above all, Barry adored his granddaughter Madeline. His face lit up whenever she entered the room. For her third birthday, he arranged for a “Belle” princess to come sing and dance — and Madeline was convinced she had met the real Belle. Barry will be remembered for his humor, his kindness, and his unwavering love for his family.
Visitation will be held at Kuiper Funeral Home, 9039 Kleinman Road, Highland, IN 46322, on March 11, 2026, from 4:00 to 8:00 pm.
