

Bernard "Ben" Zemen Sr., age 87 of Highland, passed away Saturday, November 26, 2011. Survived by loving wife, Helen of 61 years; loving children; son, Bernie (Donna) Zemen of Highland; daughters: Doreen (Don) Kitchell of Highland and Debbie (Jim) Roberts of Schererville; loving grandchildren: Angie (Todd) Kuna, Laura Zemen, Dru, Brandon and Sarah Kitchell and Rachel Roberts; great grandchild, Baby Kuna; one brother, Andrew (Millie) Zeman; two sisters: Mary Ann Ustian of Lansing and Millie Kuna of OH; brother-in-law, Andy Klosak of Hammond; and numerous nieces, nephews, brothers-in- law and sisters-in-law. Preceded in death by brothers: Steve, Joe, Kalman and Sylvester; and sister, Helen. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday at 10:30 AM at Our Lady of Grace Church with visitation at the church from 9:30 AM until 10:30 AM with Rev. Edward Moszur officiating. Friends are invited to meet with the family on Tuesday from 3:00 to 8:0 PM at the Kuiper Funeral Home, 9039 Kleinman Ave., Highland, with a prayer service at 3:30 PM. Burial at Catholic Cemeteries. Mr. Zemen was a member of Our Lady of Grace Church in Highland. He retired from Inland Steel after 36 years, was a member of the 25 years club, Veteran of World War II, member of the American Legion #369 of East Chicago, who will hold military honors at the funeral home and cemetery, and a member of the VFW of Highland. He was an avid Bears, Cubs and IU Basketball fan. He loved to attend his grandchildrens athletic events with video camera in hand.
