

Carmen Salazar (nee Camarillo) passed away surrounded by her loving family on May 2, 2026, at the age of 79. Carmen was born on July 8, 1946, to the late Carmelino and Francisca Camarillo in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico.
She is survived by her children, Marco (Kelly) Salazar and Patricia (Jason) Corral; her grandchildren, Jesenia (Issac), Jacqui, Aziah, Reyna (John), Jason (Gabriella), Rafael, Justin, Cristian, and Alexis (Niko); her 18 great-grandchildren; her siblings, Bertha (Margarito), Elvia (late Clyde), and Juan (Rosa); her brother-in-law, Carlos (Terri); her sister-in-law, Evelyn; many nieces and nephews; and her best friend and partner in crime, Pat Boggess.
Carmen is preceded in death by her loving husband, Manuel Salazar; her son, Juan M. Salazar; and her sister, Alicia Leal Camarillo.
Carmen was a cosmetology instructor at Don Roberts Beauty Academy for over 30 years. She was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, where she married the love of her life, Manuel, in 1967. Carmen was a genuinely caring person who would lend a helping hand to those she loved. She enjoyed visiting the casino with her son, Marco, who was considered her lucky charm. Carmen will always be remembered as a loving mother, grandma, and was affectionately known to her great-grandchildren as Mamacita. She will be remembered for her beautiful soul and dearly missed by all.
A visitation for Carmen will be held Friday, May 8, 2026, from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at Kuiper Funeral Home, 9039 Kleinman Road, Highland, IN 46322. A Catholic Mass will be held on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at 10:00 am at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 3510 Deodar Street, East Chicago, IN 46312. Burial to follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
