Dale had quite the active life. After high school, he served his country honorably in the United States Army during the Korean War Era. Throughout his life, he maintained relationships with those who served by being a member of the American Legion Post #20, VFW at Large, Marine Corp League, Howling Mad Detachment, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles #2659 Club.
His family will always remember that he was an avid gardener, who enjoyed canning the "fruits" of his labors. He liked all aspects of woodworking, social time with his friends, and loved to travel and go camping.
He leaves behind his beloved wife of 34 years, Rose M. Bowie; children, Cheryl A. (William) Crider of Valparaiso, IN, Robert D. Bowie of Crown Point, IN, James W. (Debra) Childers of Brandenburg, KY, Claudia L. (Fred) Moore of Rensselaer, IN, Johnny D. Childers of Tuttle, OK, Kenneth D. (Karen) Childers, of Moore, OK, Lori A. (Scott) Rich of Morocco, IN, and Tammy J.
