Daniel Diego Hernandez

Daniel was preceded in death by his parents, Jose and Maria Hernandez; and his brothers, Jesus and David Hernandez.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 75 years, Refugio Hernandez Sanchez; sons, Javier, Luis, Juan, Rafael, Adan, Santiago, Jose, Antonio, and Rito Hernandez; daughters, Eva Hernandez, Rocio Hernandez, and Maria Carmen Avina. He also leaves behind a legacy of love through his 48 grandchildren, 67 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

Daniel retired from Tank Wash after more than 25 years of dedicated service. He found joy in simple pleasures, such as gardening, listening to music, and sharing a cigarette and a beer with his family. Above all, he cherished time spent with those he loved.

A visitation for Daniel will be held on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, from 2:00 to 8:00 PM at Kuiper Funeral Home, 9039 Kleinman Road, Highland, IN 46322. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, at 10:30 AM at St. Mary’s Church, 802 West 144th Street, East Chicago, IN 46312. He will be laid to rest at Saint John-Saint Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Hammond, IN.
