Daniel Joseph Sullivan, formerly of Dyer, IN, entered into eternal life Tuesday, December 4, 2018. Daniel is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Anne (Hughes) Sullivan; children Daniel J. (Julia) Sullivan III of Olney, MD, Kathleen Mahoney of Munster, IN, Timothy (Rebecca) Sullivan, of DeMotte, IN, Margaret “Peg” (Sean) Keiller, of Gaithersburg, MD, Eileen Sullivan of New Milford, NJ, and Siobhan (Matthew) Fagen of Schererville, IN; grandchildren Brendan Sullivan, Shawn Mahoney, Sophia Sullivan, McKailey Sullivan, Madeline Sullivan, Colin Sullivan, Liam Keiller, and Kieran Keiller; several nieces and nephews; brother-in-law George Tselios; and special friends Mary (Reid) Kujawa, Caroline (Reid) McShane, Paul Reid, and numerous others in Northern Ireland. Daniel is preceded in death by his parents, brother John, and sisters Eileen Tselios and Elizabeth Trott. Daniel was born September 28, 1933, in Manchester, NH to Dr. Daniel J. Sullivan and M. Lucille (McDonnell) Sullivan. He graduated from the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, MA and received his Juris Doctor degree from Georgetown University Law Center in Washington, D.C. While at Georgetown, Daniel met a young congressional staffer, Anne Hughes of Glendive, MT. Two years later they were married, and started their family in Derwood, MD. After a brief stay in Kennewick, WA, they settled the family in Dyer. Daniel was a longtime parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dyer, and enjoyed singing in the choir. He also enjoyed participating in the Knight of Columbus and coaching youth sports. A great passion of his was being a host family and board member of the Irish Children’s Fund, which brought to the US both Catholic and Protestant children from war-torn areas of Northern Ireland. Visitation will be held Friday, December 14, 2018, from 4:00pm - 8:00pm ( Service of Remembrance at 7:30pm) at Kuiper Funeral Home in Highland, IN. The Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, December 15 at 1:00pm at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dyer. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dyer or the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. The family would like to thank the staff at Franciscan Hospital in Dyer for their excellent care.
