Edward A Koenig

Ed Koenig of Munster, IN formerly of Highland, IN passed away on January 7, 2013. He was 89 years old. Ed was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. and served with the U.S. Air Force during WWII in Guam. He returned from war and was educated at the University of Minnesota, graduating with a Masters Degree in Engineering, and was a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers. Ed was employed by Standard Oil of Indiana ( Amoco, B.P.) and retired in 1985 and was a member of St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church of Dyer, IN. He traveled in the U.S., Canada and Europe. He enjoyed gardening, but mostly he was a family man who treasured his wife, children and grandchildren. Ed is survived by his wife, Madeline (nee Glasser); five children: Mary (Joseph) Murzyn, Judy (Thomas) Mihalik, Mark (fiancee Lisa) Koenig, Laura (James) Conroy and Thomas (Michelle) Koenig; eleven grandchildren: Daniel and Christine Murzyn; Matthew Mihalik, Dan (fiancee Sarah) Mihalik; Elise (David) Fuss, Michelle, Kevin, Bryan and Kimberly Koenig; Erin and Kathleen Conroy; two sisters: Hilda Koenig and Evelyn Bauge; and many nieces and nephews. Ed was preceded in death by his parents: Alois and Albertina Koenig; and sister, Louise Jung. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, January 12, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. DIRECTLY at St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church, 500 Northgate Dr., Dyer, IN with Rev. Tim McFarland officiating. Interment will follow at Good Shepherd Cemetery, Orland Park, IL. Friends are invited to meet with the family Friday, January 11, 2013 from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Kuiper Funeral Home, 9039 Kleinman Road (two blocks south of Ridge Road) Highland, IN.
