Eugene Keown

EUGENE "GENE" KEOWN FORMERLY OF GRIFFITH, IN Eugene "Gene" Keown, age 83, of Frostproof, FL, formerly of Griffith and Gary, passed away Sunday August 21, 2011 while in hospice. Eugene is survived by his wife of 60 years, Erna Ann (nee Stasiak) Keown; son, Eugene Keown of Griffith; daughter Cynthia Ann Piekarczyk of Hymera, IN; grandchildren: Brian, Josh, Tony, Thomas, Lenise, Desiree, Kevin, and Trisha; great grandchildren: Mariah, Jimmy, Dakota, A.J., Ethan, Tristan, Lilly, Annabell, Vanessa, and Nevaeh. He was preceded in death by son, James, in 1982. Funeral services will be held Friday, August 26, 2011 at 11:00 AM at Kuiper Funeral Home, 9039 Kleinman Road (two blocks south of Ridge Road), Highland, IN with Reverend Theodore Mens officiating. Burial to follow at Mount Mercy Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 9:00 AM until time of service. Mr. Keown was born on March 19, 1928 in Fordsville, KY and moved to Frostproof from Griffith, IN in 1984. He was retired after 39 years as a chief operator for the Standard Oil of Indiana Refinery. He was of the Catholic faith.
