

Eva Ebbert of Crete, Illinois, passed away on February 27, 2016 after a brief illness. She was born in Wichert, Illinois on Christmas Day, 1918, as the eighth of Yme and Janke Homans’ eleven children. Yme and Janke (sometimes known as Jennie) arrived from the Netherlands in 1912, first settling near Wichert and then moving to Lansing. Eva was the last of their children to die, but she is survived by her two sons, Allan Schoon of Scottsdale, Arizona and Eugene Schoon of Oak Park, Illinois, their spouses Joyce and Faith, three grandchildren, one great grandchild, and many nieces and nephews. Her first husband, Albert Schoon of Highland and Merrillville, Indiana died in 1974. Her second husband, Harry Ebbert, died in 1985. She was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church of Highland (now Faith Church) and a faithful servant of God for her 97 years. She loved her family and friends and lived a life of humble gratitude for God’s grace. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on March 13, 2016 at Faith Church, 8910 Grace Street in Highland, Indiana. A reception for friends and family will follow at Tiebel’s in Schererville.
