

George R. Simanson, age 94, of Hammond, IN, passed away on June 23, 2026. He is survived by children, Linda Maksimik, Raymond (Connie) Simanson, Lucinda "Cindy" (late Paul) Wetnight, and Susie (Tod) Isom; grandchildren, David (Tamara) Maksimik, Heather (Wyatt) Maksimik, Scott Maksimik, James Simanson, Dawson Simanson, Paul (Liz) Wetnight, Philip (Stacey) Foster, and Patrick (Kelley) Wetnight; and many great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. George was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Simanson; granddaughter, Kelly Simanson; and his three siblings.
Funeral services will be held at Kuiper Funeral Home, 9039 Kleinman Road, Highland, IN, 46322 on Monday, June 29, 2026, with visitation from 10:00 am until the time of the service at 12:00 pm. Burial to follow at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, 8178 Cline Avenue, Crown Point, IN 46307.
George proudly served in the United States Navy during the Korean War aboard three aircraft carriers. A hardworking man with a strong work ethic, he was respected for his dedication, reliability, and ability to fix just about anything, especially boat motors.
George enjoyed bowling, fishing, ballroom dancing, drawing, and listening to big band music. He was a lifelong animal lover, who never hesitated to take in a stray and offer a caring home.
Most of all, George was a devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and father-in-law. He will be remembered for his love of family, his kindness, and the example he set through a life of service, hard work, and compassion.
He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
